Through fishing rights acquired over 26 years, Letap operates across the full breadth of South Africa's commercial fishing industry.
South Africa's fishing industry is divided into regulated quota-based sectors, with government-allocated fishing rights determining who may catch, how much, and when. Letap Fishing holds rights across our operations a testament to the company's growth, credibility, and commitment to the industry.
The Chokka squid Loligo reynaudi is one of South Africa's most valuable seafood exports and is unique to the waters of South Africa. Found in cold, upwelling-driven coastal waters between Cape Town and East London, Chokka is prized for its tenderness, flavour, and firmness.
Letap Fishing has been involved in the squid sector since its founding in 1998, and today operates two dedicated squid jigging vessels: the Lady Aqeelah and Princess Azeemah.
Cape hake (Merluccius capensis and M. paradoxus) is South Africa's most commercially significant fish species accounting for the bulk of the country's fish exports. Found in the cold, nutrient-rich waters of the Eastern and Western Cape, hake is valued in markets across Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Letap's Hake Trawl sector operates three vessels: the Loqueran, Alayah, and Teya-Nikka all working the trawl grounds of the South African coast with responsible demersal trawling practices.
South African pilchards (Sardinops sagax) and anchovies (Engraulis encrasicolus) are cornerstones of the country's food security and marine ecosystem, providing affordable protein to millions. Purse-seine caught off the South African coast, these species are processed into canned fish, fishmeal, and fish oil.
Letap Fishing processes its pilchard and anchovy catch through an established processing facility, deepening our involvement in two of South Africa's most important small pelagic fishing sectors.
